Frequently asked questions

Everything you might want to know about converting video to audio with Konvert: formats, devices, limits, privacy and using it responsibly.

The basics

Is Konvert free?

Yes. There's no sign-up, no subscription and no watermark on the audio. To keep the service fast for everyone, you can start up to 10 conversions per hour.

What does Konvert do?

It takes a link to an online video, extracts the audio track on our server, converts it to the format you choose and gives you an audio file to download. You never download the video itself.

Which sites are supported?

YouTube works today, including regular videos, Shorts, live replays and YouTube Music links. Facebook and TikTok support is in development.

Do I need to install an app or extension?

No. Conversion happens on our server, so all you need is a web browser on your iPhone, iPad, Android phone, Mac, Windows PC or Linux computer.

Formats & quality

Which audio formats can I download?

MP3 (128, 192 or 320 kbps), M4A (AAC), OPUS, WAV and FLAC.

Which format should I choose?

Pick MP3 if you just want it to play everywhere. Choose M4A for Apple devices, OPUS to keep YouTube's original audio in the smallest file, and WAV or FLAC if you're going to edit the audio.

Will a 320 kbps MP3 or a FLAC file sound better than the video?

No. Conversion can't add detail that isn't in the original upload. Higher settings avoid losing more quality, but they can't restore what the source never had.

Is the audio re-encoded?

It depends on the format. YouTube usually delivers Opus audio, so OPUS is typically saved without re-encoding. MP3 and M4A are encoded with FFmpeg, and WAV and FLAC store the decoded audio without any further loss.

Why are WAV and FLAC files so large?

WAV is uncompressed, so it takes about 10–12 MB per minute. FLAC is compressed without loss, but it keeps the full precision of the decoded audio, so it's often about as large as WAV. Choose them for editing and archiving, not to save space.

Devices & downloads

Where do downloads go on iPhone or iPad?

Safari saves them to the Downloads folder in the Files app, either in iCloud Drive or on your device, depending on your settings. While a file is saving, tap the downloads button in Safari's address bar to see it.

Where do downloads go on Android?

Most browsers, including Chrome, save files to the Downloads folder. Open your phone's Files app and choose Downloads, or open Downloads from Chrome's menu.

Where do downloads go on a computer?

To your browser's download folder, usually called Downloads. Press Ctrl+J in most browsers on Windows and Linux, Option+Command+L in Safari, or Shift+Command+J in Chrome on a Mac to see the list.

I can't find my download. What should I do?

Look in your browser's downloads list first. The file is named after the video's title. If the Download button no longer works, the file was deleted after 30 minutes, so convert the video again.

Limits & troubleshooting

Which links work?

Links to a single YouTube video: youtube.com/watch?v=…, youtu.be/…, youtube.com/shorts/…, youtube.com/live/… and music.youtube.com, including m.youtube.com links. Paste the full link, starting with https://.

Can I convert a whole playlist at once?

Not at the moment. Konvert converts one video per job, so paste the link to each video you need. A video link that includes &list= still works, and only that video is converted.

Is there a video length limit?

Yes. Videos longer than 1 hour aren't supported. The length is checked before anything is downloaded, so you'll know straight away.

How many videos can I convert?

Up to 10 per hour from the same connection. Each conversion counts toward the limit for one hour after you start it, so you can continue as older ones age out.

The progress bar reached 100% and started again. Is that normal?

Yes. The bar first tracks the audio downloading from the video site, then restarts for the conversion step. The Download button appears when both are done.

Why did my conversion fail?

The most common reasons are that the video is private, age- or sign-in-restricted, removed, blocked in our server's region, or longer than the length limit. Playlist and channel links also won't work. Paste a link to one specific video instead.

Privacy & responsible use

How long do you keep my files?

Converted files and their job details are deleted automatically about 30 minutes after you start the conversion, so download yours straight away.

Do you track what I convert?

There are no accounts and no conversion history. A job's link, format and video title are kept only until its file is deleted, and your IP address is held briefly to apply the hourly limit.

Can I convert any video I find?

Only convert videos you own, that are in the public domain or under a license such as Creative Commons that allows it, or that you have the rights holder's permission to use.

Can Konvert get around sign-in, age checks or paywalls?

No. Konvert only works with videos anyone can watch without signing in, and it doesn't bypass sign-in, age checks, paywalls or copy protection.

Is Konvert affiliated with YouTube?

No. Konvert is an independent tool. It isn't affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by YouTube, Google, Facebook, Meta or TikTok.
