How to convert YouTube to MP3 on iPhone, Android, Mac and Windows
Step-by-step: copy a YouTube link, convert it to MP3 for free and find the file on iPhone, Android, Mac or Windows. No app, no sign-up.
The three steps on every device
Whatever you're using, converting YouTube to MP3 comes down to the same three steps. Only the way you copy the link and where the file lands are different, and the sections below cover each device.
- Copy the video's link. In the YouTube app, tap Share and then Copy link. In a browser, copy the address from the address bar.
- Paste it and choose a format. Open the converter, paste the link and choose MP3 at 128, 192 or 320 kbps. You can also choose M4A, OPUS, WAV or FLAC.
- Convert and download. Select Convert and wait for the status page to finish, then select Download. Files are deleted about 30 minutes after you start, so save yours straight away.
It's free, there's no account, and videos can be up to 1 hour long. You can start up to 10 conversions an hour.
YouTube to MP3 on iPhone and iPad
You don't need a shortcut, a computer or a paid app. Safari can download the MP3 directly.
- In the YouTube app, open the video, tap Share, then Copy link.
- Open Safari, go to Konvert, tap the link box and choose Paste.
- Choose MP3, tap Convert, and tap Download when it's ready. If Safari asks whether to download the file, tap Download.
Where is the MP3? Open the Files app and go to Downloads. Depending on your settings, that folder is in iCloud Drive or under On My iPhone. To change the location, go to Settings > Apps > Safari > Downloads (on older iOS versions, Settings > Safari > Downloads).
Playing it. Tap the file in Files to play it. The iPhone Music app only shows songs that were synced from a computer or added through Apple Music, so to put the MP3 in your music library, import it on a Mac or PC and sync it. The MP3 player guide explains how.
YouTube to MP3 on Android
- In the YouTube app, tap Share under the video, then Copy link.
- Open Chrome (or any browser), go to Konvert, long-press the link box and tap Paste.
- Choose MP3, tap Convert, then Download.
Where is the MP3? In your Downloads folder. Open the Files app (called Files by Google, My Files on Samsung, or similar) and choose Downloads, or open Downloads from Chrome's menu. Most music player apps find new MP3s in Downloads automatically, though some only scan the Music folder. If yours doesn't show the file, move it to Music with your Files app.
Making it a ringtone. On most Android phones, go to Settings > Sound & vibration > Ringtone and add the MP3 from your files. The exact menu names vary by phone maker.
YouTube to MP3 on Windows
- Open the video in your browser and copy the address from the address bar. You can also right-click the video and choose Copy video URL.
- Go to Konvert, paste with Ctrl+V, choose MP3 and select Convert.
- Select Download. Press Ctrl+J to see your downloads.
The file is in your Downloads folder. Double-click it to play it in Media Player, or drag it into your music library. You don't need desktop software or a browser extension.
YouTube to MP3 on a Mac
- Copy the video's address from Safari, Chrome or any other browser.
- Paste it into Konvert with Command+V, choose MP3 and click Convert.
- Click Download. The file goes to Downloads.
To add it to the Music app, open Music and choose File > Import, or drag the MP3 into the Music window. From there you can sync it to an iPhone, iPad or iPod.

Which settings to choose
- Music: MP3 at 192 kbps. It sounds the same as YouTube's own audio to most people and is about 1.44 MB per minute.
- Podcasts, lectures and talks: MP3 at 128 kbps. Speech doesn't need more, and an hour takes about 58 MB.
- The best possible MP3: 320 kbps. It can't sound better than the video, but it adds the least extra loss.
- The original audio, untouched: OPUS. YouTube usually streams Opus, so it's often saved without re-encoding.

Questions about converting YouTube to MP3
Do I need an app to convert YouTube to MP3 on my phone?
No. Konvert runs in the browser, so Safari on iPhone and Chrome on Android work without installing anything. Be wary of apps and extensions that promise YouTube MP3 downloads, because they often ask for far more access than a converter needs.
How do I convert a YouTube playlist to MP3?
Konvert converts one video at a time. Open each video in the playlist and paste its link separately. A link that includes &list= still works and converts just the video it points to.
Can I convert YouTube Music songs to MP3?
Yes, if the track is a regular public video. Paste a music.youtube.com/watch?v= link the same way as a youtube.com link. Tracks that need a Premium sign-in can't be converted.
Why is the MP3 named after the video?
The file name comes from the video's title, with characters that aren't allowed in file names removed. You can rename it afterwards without affecting the audio.
