TikTok to MP3: how to save a TikTok sound as an audio file

Ways to keep a TikTok sound: favorite it, save the video and pull the audio out as MP3 or M4A, find the full song, or make it a ringtone.

Option 1: Save the sound in TikTok

If you want to use a sound in your own TikTok, or just come back to it, you don't need a file at all.

  1. On the video, tap the sound name at the bottom, or the spinning record in the corner.
  2. On the sound's page, tap Add to Favorites.
  3. Find it later under your profile's Favorites tab (the bookmark icon), in Sounds. You can also tap Use this sound to start a video with it.

Favorites stay inside TikTok, so they won't play in your music app or work as a ringtone. For that, you need a file.

Option 2: Find the full song

Many TikTok sounds are clips of released songs. The sound page usually shows the song title and artist, and for many licensed songs TikTok offers a button to add the track to a music app such as Spotify, Apple Music or Amazon Music. If not, search for the title there.

This gives you the full song in proper quality, legally. A clip pulled from a TikTok is usually a short, compressed excerpt, sometimes sped up or mixed with someone talking over it.

Option 3: Save the video and extract the audio

For an original sound, like a voice clip, a creator's own track or your own video, you can save the video and turn it into an audio file.

  1. On the video, tap Share (the arrow), then Save video. It goes to your Photos or Gallery. If the option is missing, the creator has turned downloads off.
  2. Extract the audio with one of the methods below for your device.

Extract TikTok audio on iPhone

The free Shortcuts app, built into iOS, can strip the video and keep the sound:

  1. Open Shortcuts and tap + to make a new shortcut.
  2. Add the action Select Photos. Then add Encode Media, tap its arrow and turn on Audio Only.
  3. Add Save File, so the result goes to the Files app.
  4. Run the shortcut, pick the saved TikTok video and choose where to save the file.

You get an M4A file, which plays in Files, works in GarageBand and plays in nearly every app. Use this shortcut for any video in your Photos, not just TikToks.

Extract TikTok audio on Android

Android doesn't include an audio extractor, but free video editors do. In CapCut, for example, start a new project, tap Audio and then Extracted, and pick the saved video. Its sound becomes an audio track you can trim and export. Stick to well-known apps from the Play Store, and skip any "TikTok MP3" app that asks for access it doesn't need.

Extract TikTok audio on a computer

Copy the saved video to your computer, then use a free tool:

  • VLC (Windows, Mac, Linux): choose Media > Convert / Save (on a Mac, File > Convert / Stream), add the video, pick the Audio - MP3 profile and choose where to save it.
  • FFmpeg (command line): ffmpeg -i tiktok.mp4 -vn -c:a libmp3lame -b:a 192k sound.mp3. The -vn option drops the video, and -b:a 192k sets the MP3 bitrate.

Not sure which format to choose? MP3 plays everywhere. M4A is a little smaller for the same quality. The audio formats guide compares them.

Turn a TikTok sound into a ringtone

  • Android: Move the MP3 to your phone, then go to Settings > Sound & vibration > Ringtone and add it from your files. Menu names vary by phone maker.
  • iPhone: Open the M4A in GarageBand, trim it to 30 seconds or less, then use Share > Ringtone to export it and set it as your ringtone.

What you're allowed to do with it

A TikTok sound belongs to whoever made it, or to the record label if it's a released song. Saving one for your own listening or a ringtone is very different from reposting it, putting it in your own content outside TikTok, or sharing the file. The safest sources are your own videos, sounds the creator clearly offers for reuse, and official song releases. Our copyright basics guide explains the details.

Questions about TikTok sounds

Can I paste a TikTok link into Konvert?

Not yet. TikTok support is in development. For now, save the video from TikTok and extract the audio on your device, or find the original song on a music service. Both are explained in this guide.

Where do my favorite TikTok sounds go?

Open your profile, tap the Favorites tab (the bookmark icon) and choose Sounds. Favorites stay inside TikTok and aren't saved as audio files on your phone.

Why can't I save some TikTok videos?

Creators can turn off downloads for their videos, and the Save video option then disappears. Respect that choice: look for the sound's original song instead, or ask the creator.

Does a saved TikTok video's audio have a watermark?

The TikTok watermark is a visual logo on the picture, so the audio you extract has no watermark of its own. Some saved videos end with a short TikTok outro, which you can trim off in any audio editor.
