Guide
Video to MP3: how to get the audio from YouTube, Facebook, X, TikTok and your own files
How to convert video to MP3 from YouTube, Facebook, X (Twitter), TikTok or a file on your phone or computer, free and step by step.
Every platform at a glance
| Platform | Paste a link in Konvert? | Other way to get the audio |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube, Shorts, YouTube Music | Yes | Not needed. |
| In development | Download your own video, then extract the audio. | |
| X (Twitter) | Not yet | Save the video (Premium, or your own posts), then extract the audio. |
| TikTok | In development | Save the video if the creator allows it, or find the original song. |
| A file on your device | No | VLC, FFmpeg or iPhone Shortcuts. |
Why the difference? Public YouTube videos can be reached without signing in. Many Facebook, X and TikTok videos can only be seen by signed-in users, and Konvert never bypasses sign-in, so we're adding those platforms carefully.
YouTube to MP3
- Copy the video's link. In the app, tap Share > Copy link.
- Paste it into the converter and choose MP3 at 128, 192 or 320 kbps (or M4A, OPUS, WAV or FLAC).
- Select Convert, then Download.
It's free, needs no account and handles videos up to 1 hour long. For device-specific steps, see YouTube to MP3 on iPhone, Android, Mac and Windows. Spanish speakers can use the convertidor de YouTube a MP3.
Facebook video to MP3
Konvert's Facebook to MP3 converter is in development. Until it's ready, here's how to get the audio from a Facebook video you posted:
- Download the video. On a computer, open the video, select the ⋯ menu and choose Download video, which appears on videos you uploaded. To get all your videos, use Accounts Center > Your information and permissions > Download your information.
- Extract the audio using one of the file methods below.
For someone else's video, ask them for the file or the original audio. Pages and creators often share the full-quality version if you ask, and it'll sound better than a re-compressed copy.
X (Twitter) video to MP3
X doesn't offer audio downloads, but you can save some videos and convert the file:
- X Premium: subscribers can download videos from posts where the creator has allowed downloads. Look for the download option in the post's share or ⋯ menu.
- Your own posts: request your data archive under Settings > Your account > Download an archive of your data. It includes the videos you uploaded.
Then extract the audio as described in Convert a video file to MP3. Many videos on X are reposted clips from YouTube. If you find the original on YouTube, you can paste that link into the converter directly, as long as you have the right to keep it.
TikTok to MP3
TikTok links in Konvert are coming soon. Meanwhile, you can favorite a sound in the app, save the video and extract its audio, or find the full song on a music service. All three methods, plus how to make a ringtone, are in how to save a TikTok sound as an MP3.
Convert a video file to MP3
Once a video is saved on your device, any of these free methods will turn it into audio.
On a computer: VLC
- Install VLC from
videolan.org, its official site. - On Windows or Linux, choose Media > Convert / Save and add the video. On a Mac, choose File > Convert / Stream.
- Choose the Audio - MP3 profile, set a destination file ending in
.mp3, and start.
On a computer: FFmpeg
If you're comfortable with a terminal, FFmpeg gives exact control. It's also the engine Konvert uses for its own conversions.
ffmpeg -i video.mp4 -vn -c:a libmp3lame -b:a 192k audio.mp3
-vn drops the video and -b:a 192k sets a 192 kbps constant bitrate. For a lossless copy for editing, use ffmpeg -i video.mp4 -vn audio.wav.
On iPhone: Shortcuts
Make a shortcut with Select Photos, then Encode Media with Audio Only turned on, then Save File. Running it on any video in Photos saves an M4A to the Files app. The TikTok guide has step-by-step instructions.
On Android: a video editor
Editors such as CapCut can extract the audio from a video in your Gallery and export it. Use well-known apps from the Play Store, and avoid "video to MP3" apps that ask for contacts, SMS or other access they don't need.
Which audio format to choose
- MP3, 192 kbps: plays on every phone, computer, car stereo and MP3 player.
- MP3, 128 kbps: for speech, such as podcasts, lectures and voice notes.
- M4A: slightly better quality for the size, and native on iPhone and Mac.
- WAV or FLAC: for editing, because they add no further loss.
Whatever you choose, the audio can't sound better than the video it came from. The formats guide and bitrate guide explain why. And whichever platform it's from, only convert videos you have the right to use. See copyright basics.
